Clearwater Flyfishing Country Estate
Location : Moreleta Park South, Irene, South Africa Year : 2000
In collaboration with KWP

Clearwater country fishing estate was developed in conjunction with KWP architects, with a Rosebank developer as client. The land in Moreleta Park South belonged to a local family, and it was encroached upon by suburban developments.
A part of the property was within the flood line, and could not be subdivided and sold off. We designed a gated community with a lake at the center, providing an amenity for the residents, and sold most of the subdivided plots off plan. The creation of the waterbody provided the branding opportunity for the master planned community.
This generated enough cashflow after installation of the services and constructing the roads to also develop 48 villas on the estate

Yuyuan Gardens Masterplan
Location : Shanghai, PR China
Year : 2002
In collaboration with Kell & Rigby

Yuyuan Gardens, now called Feijiatang, is a residential estate North of and fed by the Dianpu river in the Jiutingzhen (Minhang) District of Shanghai. It is located due south of the Shanghai Hongqiao international airport. We worked in conjunction with Kell & Rigby on the planning and landscape design/ public realm concept. The project started in 2002, and construction later that same year. It is a gated community with a club house and a lake, and with sub-neighborhood clusters nestled around an open space systems. The villas are of American colonial design.
The landscaping was conserved around a maritime theme. The guest drives through an impressive gate to arrive at a water featured round about, with the clubhouse to the right and a pergola to the left. Once past the roundabout, the lake stretches in front of the visitor with a boardwalk, and a T-junction onto the loop road collecting all the traffic off the community roads. Across the large lake with the boardwalk is yet another maritime inspired landscape area with a deck linking to the open space system. A Japanese like bridge link the pathway to the open space. A labyrinth and yet a third pyramid water feature completes the open space system. The lake links back to the river with a stream, connecting at the Xiaolai rail port.

Mina Jebel Ali Residential Masterplan
Location : Shanghai, PR China
Year : 2003
In collaboration with HLW

The Shanghai Racquet Club and Apartments phase-two masterplan was done in 2003 in conjunction with HLW architects. The site plan consisted of an existing club house occupying the central fith of the site, and one quarter of the remaining area already being occupied with 13 apartment buildings.
The ING Group decided to double the residential offering and secured our services to lay out the masterplan for the second phase. The theme of Mediterranean village-architecture and the high GFA in the brief predicated a midrise development around a central open space. The ING Group is a Dutch multinational banking and financial services corporation headquartered in Amsterdam. ING is an abbreviation for Internationale Nederlanden Groep and according to the “Fortune Global 500” in 2012, ING was the world’s largest banking/financial services and insurance conglomerate by revenue with gross receipts exceeding $150 billion per annum.
The master planning services lead into multiple other contracts, including Architectural Design, Landscape Design, Interior Design and site supervision services leading to our involvement until completion.

The club offers outdoor and indoor tennis courts, squash courts, table tennis and badminton court, outdoor and indoor swimming pool, restaurants and bars, a fitness centre, a library, banquet and conference facilities, an international standard medical clinic, a supervised childcare centre and children playground, and overnight club suits.
The apartment buildings were designed to create an interesting Mediterranean roofscape and facade modulation while still optimizing revenue and thus standard room layouts. A color scheme was chosen after studying the colors of buildings in southern France. Terra Cotta roofs hide the mechanical spaces on the roof.
